The girls were treated to this special trip after a very generous donation suggested by councillor Christine Brown and councillor Trish Gilby of Brimington Council. On the night, the Brownies enjoyed a tailored session, learning about the science and history of chocolate, the origins and supply chain, designing and making their own chocolate lollies and of cause lots of chocolate eating! The Brownies combined education with interactive learning. There were lots of smiles and happy Brownies and Leaders. This was a fabulous end to the term and a great last meeting for one of the eldest girls who is leaving Brownies. Even the heat melting the chocolate didn’t spoil the fun

Annual Flower and Produce Show 22 August 2015
Report by Debbie Pendragon of the Allotment Society
Our Annual Show is a Community Event bringing together young and old, promoting local facilities, local produce and strengthening community spirit. All those involved in the Show do so voluntary and it is funded by events which take place throughout the year eg raffles, tombolas, bonus balls, local fairs and topped up with local sponsorship from such companies as OMNI Tech Electronics and Ringwood Hall along with small local businesses and individual sponsors. We are open to all, so sponsorship can be as little as £10 to sponsor a class.
As for exhibitors we have the Allotment Section [Novices] and Open Section [Pros] covering Vegetables, Flowers and Homecraft. We also have a children’s section [max age 14yrs] where they get the chance to create an animal using fruit or vegetables. There are 58 classes in all to enter so plenty of scope!
Dave Culley, took over as Chairman in 2009 and the event has since gone from strength to strength. It is all about community not profit. This is also our first year as part of the NVS [National Vegetable Society] which hopefully will promote our Show, bring new ideas and knowledge to our growers and give us a little on-line exposure.
